A Welland man who owns properties in different cities wants to be mayor because he says the city needs the most help.
Brandon Simon wants to leave a legacy for his daughter, leaving greatest impact on the city. "It has the most potential, but it has the lowest GDP per capita... the highest unemployment and a large enough budget in which you can work with those things."
His top priority above all else is fixing the budget, with a 10-point plan that's on his website. "Which is going to stimulate this economy, get more dollars circulating, and create a healthy economy in Welland, which hasn't been there for a long time."
He adds he'll use Strong Mayor power to do this.
Part of the plan includes downtown housing for Niagara college students. "Stimulate our local economy, and get more dollars circulating in the downtown core.... because, guess what, our businesses are only open a few hours of the day right now."
He also wants to use an online app for residents to use if city councillors don't follow through. "If residents don't get what they want from their councillors, they can go into open mic sessions, and have their councillors answer the questions directly, live on camera."
He's competing for mayor against April Jeffs, Pat Chiocchio, David McLeod, Natashia Bergen, David Clow, Gary Graziani, and Graham Speck.
