Province Invests in Community Health Centre

Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates part of almost $3-million announcement

Good news for health care in Niagara, with the expansion of the Niagara Falls Community Health Centre.

Executive Director Laura Blundell is crediting a provincial investment of $2.7-million, meaning hiring more doctors and support staff, but also doubling the patient roster in 12 months.

She says the province is looking closely where to put the money.  "And Niagara Falls has more than 15,000 patients who aren't attached to primary care, that being a doctor, and that becomes a crisis.  That's part of the reason why some of our other systems tend to be overworked and overloaded."

She adds this comes from Dr. Jane Philpott's work to get everyone in the province a doctor in 5-years.

She says they don't just work out of the Niagara Falls office.  "So we have a program called Care for Kids, which provides care for any kids that don't have a family doctor, here in Niagara Falls, but we're also expanding into Welland."

She says they'll also upgrade their records system, giving people greater access to their own medical records.
