It's given an update of its strategic plan, which includes new hospital, and integrating systems together
An update from Niagara Health on its 5-year strategic plan, Transforming Care, that began in 2023.
As it moves toward the opening of the South Niagara hospital in 2028, doctor recruitment and retention remains difficult.
However, Niagara Health says it has one of the lowest nursing vacancy rates in Ontario at just 2.4%, vacancies reduced by 43% over the last three years with more people hired.
Niagara Health also says emergency rooms have been strengthened with more technicians, personal support workers and porters, reducing off load times for ambulances, and improving the flow of people.
For the next three years, Niagara Health adds it'll remain focused on the South Niagara hospital, but also redevelopment of the Welland hospital.
The Marotta, Niagara Falls and Welland hospital systems will continue to be integrated into one system, helping to reduce wait times.
With the support of the Niagara Health Foundation, Niagara Health became the first hospital system in Canada to install the latest in technology of CT scanners.
