Police say driver charged with impaired, dog was killed
A 44-year old Welland man is facing impaired driving charges, after a pedestrian was hit over the weekend.
Police say it was Saturday night when they were called to Thorold Road, between Bridlewood Drive and Rose Avenue.
They found the woman was walking a dog, when both were hit, leaving her with what was considered life threatening injuries, the dog was killed.
However, police say the victim's condition is now stable.
Police add the driver, Sandev Varaich fled in the vehicle, but was soon caught, charged with:
- Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident-Causing Bodily Harm
- Impaired Operation-Causing Bodily Harm
- Impaired Operation – Exceed Blood Alcohol Concentration
He had a bail hearing yesterday.
