Workers vote tomorrow on whether to accept deal or not
Some good news concerning the potential strike by over 800 Niagara Parks workers.
President of Local 217 Mike Goforth says a tentative deal was reached early this morning with the Ontario government and employer.
He says his team is working on tweaking some final details, of which the workers vote on tomorrow. "Wages they might not be happy with but it is what it is. That's what other units got, even though they are taxpayer dollars, and we're not, that's what the government is doing to both us and the employer, because they're allowed to."
He says the vote result should be revealed late tomorrow night, as voting goes until 8pm.
He adds the government was not willing to move on wages, while the employer was. "First tentative agreement that went out didn't look good for the seasonals, and we're trying to fix some of that now. Because at 3am when everyone's tired, things get scanned and missed, and there were some corrections needed."
He agrees the government used this as an example of its power when bargaining with public sector unions.
