Provincial police gave details of chopper to used at night, paid for by provincial government
The Niagara region will soon have an OPP helicopter to use for night work, that'll be paid for and run by provincial police.
OPP Chief Superintendent Dana Earley explained to the police services board the equipment the helicopter has for night work.
She played video of the rescue of a 6-year old special needs boy lost in the woods near Sauble Beach. "We're bringing him out, he appears to be in good condition, but I want to get him checked. Thank you, helicopter. Yeah, 10-4, that's awesome, boys!"
Chief Bill Fordy added there is no end date in the contract for how long the chopper can be used, one of two the provincial government bought for Niagara and Windsor.
Board member Laura Ip read part of a letter from the government addressing concerns about the cost. "Will be owned and operated by Ontario Provincial Police. Its operation in the Niagara area would include funding for tactical flight officers, from the Niagara Regional Police Service, as the service of jurisdiction... all associated costs will be funded by the province."
OPP showed video of police catching a criminal as well.
