Grade 9 students in Niagara and across the province will no longer have to choose between applied or academic courses.
The Ford Government is planning to phase out the practice starting in September 2021.
Premier Doug Ford says its unfair to ask these students to make such a big decision which could affect the rest of their lives.
He says his government would also like to eliminate suspensions for students in JK to Grade 3 through Bill 197, also known as the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act.
If passed it would only apply to non-serious offences and it would come into effect this September.
This is all included in Ontario's new Education Equity Strategy.
