Province looking into increasing compensation to 90 percent of pre-accident take home pay.
The Ontario government is considering an increase in compensation for workers who become sick or injured on the job.
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the province has asked the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to explore a plan to raise benefits for injured workers and their families.
The government and the Board are considering raising compensation up to 90 percent of pre-accident take-home pay, which is up from 85 percent.
"Under our government, the WSIB has been brought to its strongest financial position in history," said McNaughton. "Exploring an increase in compensation of up to 90 per cent is just one of a series of historic steps we are taking to support injured workers in our province, as we continue to drive change at the Board to ensure it is working for workers and employers."
Officials say for an injured worker who earns $60,000, the proposed increase would mean an additional $2,315 per year.
