City council getting behind Welland and Thorold
A unanimous vote at Niagara Falls city council for the federal and provincial governments to toughen the justice system.
Councillor Mona Patel's idea had full support after she noted the little girl assaulted in Welland by a repeat sex offender out on bail.
But, she added it's not just in Welland. "In Niagara Falls, we are seeing a lot more break ins, car thefts... lots of things in Niagara Falls. This is a result of a weak sentencing and bail system in our country, in our province."
Council also supported the City of Thorold's demand the provincial sex offender registry be made public.
"Fixing the weak bail system, and ending the revolving door of justice. For crimes of this serious nature, it must be jail not bail, protecting our children, our homes, our communities must be top priority."
