Jennie Stevens accuses the government of changing building codes
Criticism from St. Catharines MPP after reports the Ontario government is altering the building code to allow triple-bunking in jails.
Jennie Stevens says putting three people into cells that weren't designed for that raises concerns about staff safety, spread of disease and overall conditions.
She adds most people in provincial jails will be back in the community in less than 2-years, so this matters.
She also says overcrowding jails without addressing the root causes makes things worse, while investing in treatment costs less than cycling people through jail.
