Jennie Stevens says the government is turning its back on communities, adding the site helped many people
The closure of Positive Living Niagara's drug injection site criticized by St. Catharines NDP MPP.
Jennie Stevens says the Ontario government is turning its back on communities during an overdose crisis fueled by a toxic drug supply.
She says the site reversed more than 1,500 overdoses, and connected people to healthcare, housing and treatment supports.
She adds this will only push more people into overworked emergency rooms, and burden ambulance workers.
The MPP also says this will not make the drug supply disappear, just shift the burden to hospitals and families struggling with this.
Officials with the new HART hub, and the drug injection sites addressed the Niagara Region's public health committee this week.
