City of St. Catharines says new refrigeration system needed at Seymour-Hannah Centre
A $1.7-million upgrade is coming to a St. Catharines community centre.
The city is spending the money on the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre, giving it a major refrigeration system replacement from June to August.
The money is coming from the 2024-2026 Multi-year Capital budget, replacing the refrigeration plant, compressors and cooling towers, which are beyond their expected life span.
As a result, the ice pads will not be available for roughly 12 weeks, making this the first summer the arena will not offer summer ice programs.
The city adds it has looked at past arena usage, and determined this is the timeframe that'll give the least disruption to public use.
