City staff will look into details of 40kms/hour in city vs 50
There's a possibility the speed limit in Welland could drop from 50 to 40kms an hour.
The idea is Councillor John Chiocchio's, who pointed out one of the biggest complaints councillors receive concerns speeding.
He adds this is similar to when seatbelts came out, and gradually accepting them. "As you may know I brought forward this motion back in 2019, I believe there's a transportation study coming forward. I've taken a page and I've followed what St. Catharines council did, and they went ahead and improved it, and I give credit to that council."
City staff will do more study on this, which is what a few councillors wanted.
Councillor Graham Speck, while concuring with Chiocchio, said it wouldn't work.
"However, reducing the overall speed limit to 40k an hour, will basically make speeders out of us all. Going 40k an hour, is very slow. I've never received a complaint about a car going 50k an hour."
