A Welland property owner will now have to pay up, for not following the Fire Code.
Firefighters inspected a two-storey rooming house on King Street back in October.
Eighteen college students were living there at the time, split between seven bedrooms.
Officials say the only working smoke alarm was in the basement and the property owner did not implement a fire safety plan.
The property owner was convicted earlier today.
They now face a $6,000 fine plus court costs and victim fine surcharge.
