The department has issued a warning on its social media pages.
It says some companies in the Niagara Region have claimed to have a working relationship with the department, but that is not true.
If a door-to-door salesman or a telemarketer claims to be working closely with a fire department or a government agency, you should contact that fire department or government agency before purchasing anything.
The product could be overpriced or possibly even unnecessary.
