Wants to defer a vote on it until 2023
Welland City councillors will be asking the region to defer any discussion on almalgamated transit services until 2023.
In a media release, the city says, while they support the move to a consolidated transit system in Niagara, they want to make sure the report recommending the move is accurate, cost-effective, and beneficial to all municipalities equally across Niagara.
Officials also expressing concerns with the proposed allocation of inter-municipal transit costs on Welland taxpayers, governance representation, and service levels.
In the interim, council says Welland, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, and the Niagara Region can continue to provide intermunicipal transit under the current service delivery model.
