Miners have been trapped underground since Sunday.
More than 24 hours after an incident at a Sudbury mine trapped them underground, the first of the dozens of miners began resurfacing late Monday.
An official with mining company Vale said in a statement they were "relieved and delighted to see these individuals returning to surface safe and sound.''
According to Vale, a rescue team had reached the 39 workers, who were in several different locations between 900 and 12 hundred metres underground.
The company says it expects all 39 miners to return to surface in the coming hours, no injuries have been reported.
