Nearly New supports Big Brothers Big Sisters
Today was Day One, back in business for the Nearly New thrift store across the street from Niagara Falls city hall, after recent flooding.
Sarah Lunderg is with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Niagara, and says all the money from store sales go mentoring programs for children and youth.
She says they were closed for about 7-weeks, after the February flooding. "So, unfortunately some pipes that were no longer in good working order, it's an older building, it needed to have some repairs, so unfortunately we had some sewage water enter into our store."
They estimate at least $10,000 in damage, and are accepting donations of clothing, and other items.
"But I think our biggest loss is our downtime, the time when we weren't able to accept donations from the community, and be here open, and selling. Everything we sell here in the store, the money supports Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs for children and youth."
The organization is mainly run with the help of volunteers.
