Thorold Mayor says the BMI Group will be using former auto parts plant
Exciting news for Thorold's mayor with the expansion of the Multimodal hub on Hayes Road.
That's due to the recent purchase of a former abandoned auto parts plant, by BMI Group, and its subsidiary Bioveld.
Terry Ugulini tells us more businesses are expressing interest in the hub, which bodes well for the region. "We signed an MOU [Memoradum of Understanding] with the City of Welland, City of Port Colborne, the federal government, and HOPA ports, to work together along the trade corridor to expand this multimodal concept."
The Mayor notes the potential with international markets just over the Niagara River.
He adds businesses in, and beyond Ontario, are interested, considering the means of transportation becoming available. "If we can move goods by rail, and by ship, and by transport... but less transport and more on the other modes of transport, I think it's good for everyone."
The mayor adds this means more jobs for manufacturing and distribution for the Niagara region.
