Update: Police say a woman was found in vehicle

Update: Wednesday afternoon

A woman is in police custody after she was found in the vehicle with the wanted man who was killed by police.

SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette says the woman was in the driver's seat.  "We haven't spoken with her yet, so it's really hard to say what was really going on in her head at the time, or her involvement yet.  The SIU's investigation is really focused on the police discharge of the firearm."

Police add the vehicle at the gas station is not the same the suspect used earlier.

NRP spokesman Richard Hingley says a child who was the subject of an Amber Alert in Brampton, where a woman was killed, was found safe in Niagara.  "The child was believed to be in the custody of a family member, and the relationship between the child and family member we don't know. I don't know if the suspect has family in Niagara, but he does have some sort of contact in the Niagara Region."

Police say one officer fired at the suspect multiples times, but it's not clear if the suspect fired back.

Original Story:

A suspect in a Brampton homicide and now cancelled Amber Alert has been shot and killed by police.

NRPS officers were actively searching for the suspect wanted in connection with a homicide in Brampton.

Police believed he was in the Niagara Region.

A shelter-in-place order was cancelled in the Crystal Beach area after investigators determined he had fled the area.

Around 2:30 this morning, the suspect was found in a vehicle at a gas station near Thorold Stone and Montrose Roads.

After an interaction with officers, 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has now taken control of the investigation.
