The agency says retail sales rose by 0.9 percent, to $60.7 billion.
The increase was fueled by general merchandise stores, which gained 4.2 percent.
Meanwhile, sales at miscellaneous retailers like pet stores, cannabis shops and office supply stores rose 11.3 percent..
An early estimate for retail sales in May suggests a gain of 1.6 percent.
