City council exploring idea of seasonal passes for boat owners, also for visitors
If you have a boat parked at a St. Catharines dock, or want to visit, the city is looking at seasonal passes to reduce parking rates.
Local boater Dwayne Christie addressed city council about West Pier, a dock that doesn't have services, yet boats from Toronto and beyond use it.
He suggested something similar to beach parking passes. "My issue is with the fact that local residents who own a boat that use that pier have to pay the same price as someone coming across from Toronto. You have multi-million dollar yachts coming across to use that pier, so, if you've been down there, you've seen them."
He added the city should take this over from 3rd parties who run it, meaning students could be hired.
"Currently there's no one there to catch your line. As a boater, and as everyone in this gallery who's a boater knows, that you like to have someone on the dock to catch your line. There are other marinas across the lake that do something similar, where you pull up, and up north, the same thing. As a boater, that's a huge thing."
Council unanimously passed this for city staff to explore.
