Niagara Falls MPP says building needs massive repairs
A plea from Niagara Falls NDP MPP for the government to intervene following the closure of the Chippawa library.
Wayne Gates stood during members statements today, saying the building needs massive repairs, and that should not fall on the community.
"The lottery board is working hard to keep some services available in Chippawa, by moving them to the local arena. While we appreciate these efforts, it won't be the same. A library is more than a place to borrow books, it's a community hub."
He also pointed out burdens faced by library boards has significantly increased, while funding has not increased in 25-years. "This Conservative government hasn't done anything to help libraries in 6 years. We shouldn't be surprised, this government doesn't believe in public services. They believe in privatization, and making the rich richer. Our libraries are being neglected."
Niagara West Tory MPP Sam Oosterhoff stood up soon after, and spoke of investments such as the EV plant in Port Colborne, hospitals, and refurbishing Sir Adam Beck power station in Niagara Falls.
