The town says anyone can nominate a tree
Town of Pelham is doing what it can to preserve trees.
It's started its Protecting Pelham's Trees program, which gives everyone the opportunity to protect as many trees as possible, and the area's natural heritage.
The town says anyone can nominate a tree, or trees, on private property for formal designation as either a Significant Community Tree, or a Heritage Tree.
Trees that meet criteria will receive legal protection under the Niagara Region Woodland Conservation By-law, ensuring they cannot be removed or altered without authorization.
You're encouraged to nominate a tree on your property that holds special significance, and the tree be in good health and native to Ontario, or considered rare and have personal value.
