Police say two men were seen biking on the ice to the Port Colborne lighthouse
Two men have been arrested, and recovering from the cold, after attempting to steal cable wire from near the Port Colborne lighthouse.
Police were called early yesterday afternoon about two people riding their bikes across the ice to a break wall near the lighthouse, along with reports the two were seen stripping wire from the wall.
Police walked across the ice, and arrested one of them, while the other tried to get away by briefly wading into open water.
He was arrested after coming to shore just after 2pm.
Police add the two were assessed for hypothermia.
45-year old Timothy Charles Pye of Port Colborne is charged with theft over $5,000, and breaking probation, while 52-year old Stephen Grant Kelly of Welland is charged with theft over $5,000, possessing break-in instruments, and breaking probation.
Both have a bail hearing today in St. Catharines.
Police have not determined a damage estimate.
