The OPP is encouraging everyone to buckle up.
From April 2 - 5, the OPP will be conducting a Seatbelt Campaign.
Due to a lack of seatbelt use, 55 people lost their lives on OPP patrolled roads.
Motorists are reminded that impaired, aggressive or distracted drivers can cause collisions at any given time.
While people may not be able to stop a dangerous driver from causing a collision, wearing a seatbelt decreases the chances of death.
Police also warn that airbags alone are not enough, as people not wearing seatbelts can die from being thrown rapidly into a frontal air bag.
Parents are also reminded to ensure that child seats are properly installed.
Car seats need to have a National Safety Mark label and accommodate children's age, height and weight.
