The Ontario Border Mayors are asking to be included in discussions about the re-opening of the Canada-United States border.
A letter has been written to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It suggests that there could be implications when essential workers cross the border for work and return to Canada every day after interacting with others in the community during their work hours.
Mayors adding their support for the notion include Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop.
"Our residents are crossing the border, manning the border and constantly watching the border. It’s only natural that we should be part of policies that affect the border."
