The public is being reminded not to leave purchases or valuables in plain sight in vehicles.
The holiday shopping season is upon us, and Niagara Regional Police are urging people to be mindful when putting purchases in the car.
Officers participating in the "Lock it or Lose it" campaign say you shouldn't leave valuables or shopping bags in plain sight in your vehicles.
If you do have to leave such items in the car, the trunk is the best spot.
You're also urged to lock your car and keep windows rolled up, never leave your keys inside the car, park in a well-lit area, and never leave your car running unattended.
The NRP also says it takes less than 30 seconds for a thief to steal a car that is unlocked or has an open window.
