Investigations Unit looked into incident at Niagara Falls jail cell after man fell unconscious

A Niagara regional police officer has been cleared of doing anything wrong after a man fell unconscious in a Niagara Falls jail cell.

Police arrested the 36-year old on September 28th, on a warrant in relation to break and enter charges.

He was put in a cell, but roughly 30 minutes later, he was found unconscious. Paramedics arrived and gave him naloxone.

He was taken to hospital, where police say drugs were found hidden in his rectum.

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit has determined if the man had been strip searched, the drugs may have been found.

But, he also felt the officer's decision to not do a search was acceptable given the man was not arrested on drug charges, and he denied using drugs.
