 
                            This as more local residents fall victim to the Grandparent Scam
Niagara Regional Police continue to investigate incidents of the grandparent scam.
Since February 2nd, police say there have been 44 documented incidents of scammer targeting vulnerable residents.
In 10 of those incidents, scammers stole in excess of $120,000.
Police note, in order to protect victims, they are asking corporate Canada to develop protocols including intervening when a vulnerable person purchases thousands of dollars in gift cards or makes a large bank withdrawal.
They also remind residents to do their homework if they get a questionable call and seek information from an official source,.
Police stress its also important to educate yourself and educate those in your life who may be vulnerable to becoming victims of a scam crime.
