Burning Springs Road also closed
After announcing it was reversing the flow of traffic through Dufferin Islands, the Niagara Parks Commission now explaining why.
Yesterday the NPC reversed the direction of the traffic and closed Burning Springs Road ahead of the start of the Winter Festival of Lights which left many wondering why?
We reached out to the NPC and received this reply from its Communications Manager Chris Giles.
Giles writes "As the majority of traffic entering Dufferin Islands approaches from North of the site, the previous configuration for the OPG Winter Festival of Lights had vehicles bypassing the first point of entry to enter at the South side. This resulted in poor traffic flow during peak times, with vehicles exiting Dufferin Islands being impeded by the cars waiting to enter. Reversing the traffic should help to minimize this issue and provide a more efficient and safer experience for all visitors, volunteers, and staff this year."
The traffic flow will return to normal when the WFOL ends February 21st.
