Council had previously voted to lower speeds on rural roads in the summer
Niagara-on-the-Lake has decided to lower the speed limit on urban roads from 50km/hr to 40km/hr.
The decision was made by council last Tuesday.
The town opted to move forward with the change without first receiving a traffic safety study, which had originally been requested of staff.
A high volume of work was deemed the reason as to why the study was not done.
Councillors had already reduced the speed on all rural roads to 70 km/h from 80 km/h this past July.
The speed limit reductions do not apply to Regional Roads, such as Niagara Stone Road.
