Police say there weren't any, but there was an attempt
Some relatively good news from Niagara police in that there are no murders they're investigating during a reporting period of April 25th to May 19th.
However, Acting Chief Brett Flynn told a recent police services board meeting they did lay a manslaughter charge in relation to an event from December 30th of last year.
"Uniformed members in St. Catharines responded to a report of a 28-year old male experiencing medical distress, as a result of the consumption of drugs.... he was transported to hospital, but died the following day," he says.
He adds two St. Catharines men are facing charges in that.
But, there was an attempted murder at a Grimsby home on May 13th. "At that location they found a 41-year old female suffering from stab wounds. She remains in hospital listed in serious but stable condition, and a suspect was taken into custody at that time."
He adds the suspect was a 70-year old Beamsville man.
There have been anywhere from 6 to 8 murders yearly since 2019.
