Police still looking for another, saying suspects broke into 8 banks across Ontario
A major breakthrough by police forces in Ontario, including Niagara, in solving some bank robberies.
Four men have been arrested, for eight bank robberies since December of 2022, including a bank in Niagara Falls.
Detective Inspector Brian McDermott says they're still looking for a suspect. "As of October 7th, 2024, the 5th individual, 32-year old Akeem Williams of Ajax, is wanted for his suspected involvement. If you see him, do not approach him. If you any information on his whereabouts, contact police immediately."
Police add over $2-million has been stolen, the suspects arrested during a robbery attempt in Field, Ontario.
OPP Deputy Commissioner Marty Kearns adds in some cases, people in the banks were tied up. "I'd like to first recognize the profound impact this crime has had on the approximate 20 victims who were in the banks at the time of the robberies. Although no physical injuries occured, the individuals caught up in these terrifying events have endured significant emotional distress."
Police say the youngest suspect is a 24-year old man from Ajax, the oldest is Akeem Williams, and another 32-year old Cobourg man.
