Niagara Contributes to McHappy Day

The region raised almost $90,000, part of nationwide $11.3-million

The Niagara region has stepped forward on McHappy Day, raising close to $90,000 for charity and Ronald McDonald House.

Community Relations rep for Niagara Anne Molnar says nationwide $11.3-million was raised, beating last year's total of $11.1-million.

She adds people want to help families with children in hospital.  "You have people coming up to you and saying 'My cousin's best friend, or my co-worker's daughter had to stay at the House.  There are stories that pull people in that help us to understand how important this day is to many people."

She says Niagara Falls raised $40,000 for Ronald McDonald charities.

In fact, people would hand $50 bills over at the drive through window.  "Just getting a coffee, 10% of that purchase was going to back to Ronald McDonald House.  It's the busiest day of the year for many of our locations, we had lineups down the street."

She says much of the $90,000 goes to the south central location, and money from Fort Erie goes to Community Living.
