The suspension which starts tomorrow runs through December 23rd which is the start of the NHL holiday break.
It also comes amid a crush of COVID cases within the league, with 27 games postponed as of Saturday and at least 12 more this week.
The decision was made by both the NHL and NHLPA.
TSN reporting the league and players' association have agreed to continue the regular-season schedule after the break.
The rising case count also brings into question whether the NHL will allow its players to take part in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
In a statement, league officials say they are discussing the matter with the NHLPA and will make a final decision in the coming days.
