Over 125 students protested changes to OSAP at St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens office, locally, but also in Toronto
At least 125 high school students protesting outside St. Catharines MPPs office today concerning changes to OSAP.
Jennie Stevens called out Premier Doug Ford for allowing a reduction in grants, while raising the amount of loan people can receive.
She adds it wasn't just high school kids. "There were mature students also in the crowd that were saying they were raising their siblings, because their parents had passed on, or they were living on their own, and they were not asking for special treatment."
The premier has made the changes due to abuses of the system.
She adds those changes are scaring the students. "They want Premier Ford to know that when you cut grants, and they're ready to go into college or university, that he is simply handcuffing them."
She says education should not be simply for those who can afford it.
