Police say a woman was trafficked in Niagara
The alleged human trafficking of a woman in Niagara has led to the arrest of a Welland man.
Back in January, police began looking into this particular case, and as a result identified 31-year old Sanjay Ferguson as a suspect.
They say he is also believed to go by the names of "Kevin Ontario", also "DJ KV" and "Mr. Provincial".
On Thursday, police used search warrants at two places in Welland, and arrested the suspect, laying a number of charges:
- Trafficking in persons, contrary to Section 279.01(1) of the Criminal Code
- Receive a financial or other material benefit, contrary to Section 279.02(1) of the Criminal Code
- Advertise sexual services of person over 18 years of age, contrary to Section 264.1, subsection (2) of the Criminal Code
- Utter threats to cause death, contrary to Section 264.1, subsection (2) of the Criminal Code
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (2 Counts)
His bail hearing was for Friday.
Police also believe there are other victims, and witnesses, and ask them to call police and help the investigation.
