Officials say pre exisiting shortage of technicians partly to blame

We are hearing reports the onset of the fifth wave of COVID-19 is pushing testing capacities to the limit in many parts of the country.

The Medical Laboratory Professional's Association of Ontario says a shortage of technicians combined with the sudden explosion of new cases and tests for Omicron is pushing labs to the limit.

Public Health officials are urging people to stay home and self isolate if they have any symptoms until they can get tested

Ottawa Public Health sent a letter to health-care professionals on Friday warning about a lack of capacity.
