The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management wants to know if your family could get out safely if there was a fire. It's fire prevention week and local fire departments are reminding everyone to be prepared.
Make sure to check your alarm once a month to ensure its working and discuss different escape routes in case of fire.
If there are young children, disabled or elderly people in the house, you need to have a plan, or a person designated to help them get out safely and quickly.
Most importantly, have a designated meeting place so you know when everyone is out, and never re-enter a burning building.
