Fines spread between 4 Welland buildings
Over $50,000 in fines have been laid against a number of building owners in Welland in violation of fire safety codes.
Inspectors looked at a building on First Avenue in 2021, finding a number of problems. The owner failed to make repairs, and was fined $8,500.
In 2022, violations were found in a Welland Street building, and following re-inspection, an $8,000 fine was laid.
A building owner on Maple Avenue was fined $18,000, after a third prosecution.
Last year, fire prevention officers showed up to a McAlpine Avenue building, where $18,000 in fines were eventually laid.
Inspectors say work has been finished at all sites, but the Welland Street building, where work is in progress.
