Coordinator says there's been a 28% increase from last year to this year
The need for Project Share's 'Snacks and Sneakers' program that ensures children have back to school supplies is more evident than ever before.
Coordinator Jessica Taylor tells us they saw a lot of kids when handing out snacks and supplies last week at St. Andrew's church. "Last year we helped about 934 children, where this year we helped about 1,150 kids. That's almost a 28% increase in just one year."
She says before the pandemic, they helped about 300 children.
She recalls the look on one mother's face.
"She was just very overwhelmed, and it was just nice to see the kids smile... and it really gets them excited for going back to school, which sometimes can be scary, especially for the younger ones, or the older ones who are going into high school for the first time."
Project Share and partner Canadian Tire Financial Services thanks the community for its support.
