The Ontario government is proposing changes to the Ontario Election Act, to also include amount of political donations
There's a good chance Ontario voters could go back to a more traditional way of elections.
The government announcing today it's proposing changes to the Election Act, in which fixed election dates of four years will be eliminated, and it's back to when the Premier advises it be done.
Other proposed changes include increased individual political donations from $3,400 to $5,000 next year, future increases tied to inflation.
There could be higher financial penalties for anyone breaking election finance or political advertising laws.
The government is also considering banning political advertising on government owned property, to keep public spaces non-partisan.
