Property owner in Niagara Falls fined for several building code violations
Niagara Falls Fire Department is hoping a recent guilty plea by a property owner for fire code violations sends a clear message.
The department says the owner of a Thorold Stone Road building pled guilty to multiple fire code offences in Welland court, receiving a $7,500 fine, plus fees and victim surcharge.
The owner was charged with not making repairs to the building's fire sprinkler system, and failing to maintain the private fire hydrants on the property.
Due to the guilty plea, the case did not go to trial where higher fines could have been given.
The fire department adds the property owner was given time to make the needed repairs, but failed to do so. which can also lead to $20,000 per day fine.
