The OPP is about to kick off it's Festive RIDE campaign.
Constable Rob Knight says you might come across more RIDE programs throughout Niagara and the rest of the province, starting tomorrow.
"We have had incidents locally in Niagara where there has been serious injury or death as a result of either alcohol or drug impairment. We're asking for the public's cooperation as we set up our RIDE checks, they could appear anywhere at any time."
Police can test anyone for alcohol during a legal traffic stop.
Knight says they also have the tools to check for drug impairment.
"We have also have in our tool kit, basically tests that can determine whether there is a presence either cannabis or cocaine in a persons body."
Knight says 56 people died on OPP patrolled roads across the province last year, in crashes related to alcohol or drug impairment.
The Festive RIDE campaign will end on January 2nd, 2020.
