The PC leader pledged helicopters to patrol the border, and help for Royal George Theatre
Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford making promises in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, on the election campaign trail.
If re-elected, he pledged two more H-135 helicopters for the NRP and Windsor police. He says it's not to avoid President Donald Trump's threatened tariffs, by securing the border, but it's the right thing to do to protect Canada and its communities.
He also promised to get larger air carriers flying out of the Niagara-on-the-Lake airport, and expand the runway.
He also turned to the Shaw Festival's Royal George Theatre. He said if re-elected there will be $35-million from the province to keep the theatre open.
Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa says the Shaw Festival has already raised $70-million. "It was slated to be closed at the end of the season, 2025, due to the condition it is in. It's an old building, with an old clay foundation."
He adds the federal government has added $35-million as well.
Niagara-on-the-Lake's Deputy Lord Mayor Erwin Wiens added his name to the Niagara mayors who've endorsed Doug Ford.
