It's having an awareness event in Niagara Falls
Niagara Crime Stoppers is trying to raise awareness of human trafficking in the region, and save as many people as possible.
Chairman Ernie Sibbett says they're having a book signing for author Just Issac's book Traffic Fight tomorrow afternoon, from 3 to 5, at Moxie's in Niagara Falls, with many dignitaries showing up.
He adds Niagara is bad for this crime since it borders the US. "They can take people that are being trafficked, out into the lake, put them into another boat, going the other way. Even local airports, that aren't open, but they leave their landing lights on, they land planes there, and pick up people."
He adds it's happening right under our noses everyday.
It starts with criminals befriending unsuspecting victims. "And the next thing is 'Hey, I went out for dinner with Joey'. A month later she was turning tricks on the strip, and, she was gone. They keep the people for about 10 years, and then they re-evaluate. If they don't have the same drawing power as they once had, they sell them."
