Charge Upgraded in Smithville Murder

Police say they've added 1st degree murder, related to murder of Cathy Prosje

Police have upgraded charges related to the murder of 62-year old Cathy Prosje, who was found dead in her Smithville home in April of 2024.

Yesterday they laid a 1st degree murder charge against Cathy's sister, 55-year old Carolyn, in addition to the Accessory after the fact to murder, which was the original charge.

Police say Carolyn remains in custody.

Police have also charged 43-year old Joseph Vilneff, of Smithville, with 1st degree murder, as well as possession of child pornography, and voyerism.

Cathy shared the Smithville home with her sister.

Police are also thanking the public for its assistance in this case.
