78 year old Boris Brott was killed yesterday morning.
Police say they received a 911 call around 10 am about a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road on the Hamilton Mountain.
Dispatchers issued an all car broadcast requesting patrol officers to look out for the vehicle.
About 20 minutes later, the victim was struck on Park Avenue South, he was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries.
The driver fled the scene and was arrested a short while later.
Three police officers and the accused were taken to hospital for injuries.
The province's SIU is now investigating.
The victim Boris Brott was an officer of the Order of Canada.
He founded the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and the Brott Music Festival, Canada's largest orchestral music festival.
