Free training session this week
Niagara West Emergency Management reminding residents, Environment Canada is offering free training to become a storm spotter.
The weather office is hosting a free virtual program Thursday evening, training participants on how to look for clues in the sky as to which storms may produce damaging weather.
The storm spotters then report information like hail size or damage that has resulted from the passage of a storm to the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre in Toronto.
Emergency Management officials say the reports help forecasters better understand the nature of a given storm and help to tailor the messages they send to the public about them.
